Mary Charles Hooks
April 17,1937- July 20,2021
Mary Charles Hooks was born on April 17, 1937 in Rowletts, Kentucky. She was born to Mother Lucille Richardson and one month later adopted to Josie and Russell Moore. When mother Josie passed away, the family moved to Platteville, Colorado in 1945 where Aunt Annie and Russell owned a farm. Mary enjoyed the farm animals and country life. She loved her pet pig named ‘Baby’, two rabbits ‘Debbie’ and ‘David,’ and dog ‘Tippy.’ Russell later moved his sister - Aunt Annie and Mary to Fort Lupton, Colorado where he worked as a Mechanic. Mary continued to stay in touch with her family in Kentucky through Summer visits with grandmother Richardson and cousins over the years.
Mary attended grade school in Platteville, Colorado, then at Whittier elementary and later Manual High school in Denver. Mary found her passion in health care, she continued schooling and earned her medical assistant degree. Mary worked in nursing homes and later found her career at Salud Clinic in Fort Lupton. Mary cared for and touched the hearts of many patients and co-workers over the years. She commuted 60 miles daily for work and gave unconditional love and care to her young patients for 32 years and 10 months at which she retired from Salud Clinic.
Mary gave birth to her first son Billy Joe Grant on December 21, 1957. She later married Wade Hooks of the United States Air Force on February 25, 1962 and they resided in Denver, Colorado. Mary later gave birth to her second son Derwin Charles Milton on April 16, 1973.
Mary was truly a gift to all who met her; her kind and generous heart touched everyone. Mary had an unconditional love and caring spirit that went beyond her nursing career, which deeply touched all of her friends and family. Mary was a humble, soft-spoken woman that read her Bible and maintained her relationship with her Creator and His Son Jesus Christ. She loved her sons and grandchildren with all of her heart. Mary enjoyed traveling particularly cruises and attending family reunions over the years. She also especially had fun at the casinos of Las Vegas and Black Hawk while sipping on her favorite beverage - Pepsi. Mom was affectionately known by her grandchildren as ‘Maw Maw’ had a huge adoration for cats. She consistently loved on her pet cats over the years and acquired quite a collection of cat figurines and likings.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her youngest son Derwin (Giselle) Milton, granddaughter Nyia Milton, great grandson Asai, great granddaughters Anubia and Neteri, cousins Carrie, Brenda, Anita, Keith, Stacy, Juanita, Samantha, Theresa, Gladys, Lemuel, Shirley and Derek. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.
Mary was proceeded in death by her husband Wade Hooks, son Billy Joe Grant, grand son Deone’ Milton and parents Lucille Richardson, Josie and Russell Moore.
For he will give his angels a command concerning you, To guard you in all your ways.
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God; exercise faith also in me. In the house of my Father are many dwelling places. Otherwise, I would have told you, for I am going my way to prepare a place for you.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at the family home on July 31st 2021 from 2pm-6pm.
